We've come a long way since then.
Now our Walker Fire Department building is much larger, with a broader range of
safety equipment.
WFPA Board Meetings
Board meetings are held the second Saturday of every month at 8 am, at the
Fire Station. All Walker residents are welcome to attend. Get
informed as to the latest information regarding improvements to our Fire
Department and our Fire Training Programs. Get answers to your questions
regarding upcoming changes, financial decisions, special events, etc. This
is your opportunity to have a voice in your community. See you there.
SPRING CLEANUP & SUMMER FUN 1. Clean out the rain gutters of pine
needles and such. 2. Clean combustibles from under decks and buildings.
3. Clean out the chimney flue and spark arrester for next winter. 4.
Remind your quad riders of safety rules to include:
SLOW DOWN!!!---WEAR PROTECTIVE GEAR---RIDE WITH A GROUP
ASH DISPOSAL 1. Put ashes in a
metal container outside and cover with water 2. Make sure container is
not on combustible material.
Our Walker Fire Dept. and Firefighters are in constant need
of keeping their equipment and supplies updated and available, in order for them
to do a safe, thorough job of protecting our community.
ALL WIRELESS ANALOG NETWORKS WILL SHUT DOWN IN FEB. 2008
This may affect some of our residents that have alarm systems but no direct
wired phone service. Many alarm systems used analog cell phone as a backup
to land line phone connections. Now if some homes do not have land line
phone, they rely on the cell link only, and if the system is more than about 2
years old, it will not work next year. Carriers will start shutting down the
country's oldest cellular network, for analog devices, in February 2008.
er
is such a wonderful place to just "be" and it keeps getting better with new
people and events for everyone to enjoy. We are definitely a growing community.
We know you all want to protect our community the best way possible. Many have
property here and some invest in our community not only with the gift of money
but also with their time, which is greatly appreciated. We need everyone
possible to participate, whether it be as a firefighter or helping out with
Walker Day or on a setup or cleanup committee for an event. Everyone can help in
some way. Our firefighters and medical volunteers certainly do their part and we
need you to do yours also.
We know the price of most everything will be going up due to fuel costs and this
makes it difficult for all of us. Operating as a volunteer organization, we do
not receive tax dollars and must rely on contributions and fund-raisers for
operating funds. It takes a great deal of money just to keep things running and
operating. WFPA expenses will increase right along
with everything else. Please be as generous as possible with your contributions,
as they are needed for so many things. Operating expenses, insurances, equipment
upgrades and repairs, tools, training for our volunteers so that they can better
protect us all, just to name a few. Ask yourself, if your Walker property would
be so valuable without your home or trees on it.
So few carry the burden for so many,
are you doing your part?

Our Walker EMT Team would like everyone to be prepared ahead of
time, for any medical/ emergency situation. Follow the list below to
prepare you, your loved ones, and your home.
1. Can an ambulance park close to the house? Can a
neighbor move a car for you? 2. Can the Med. team get a stretcher in
your home? Are the stairs cleared, furniture moved so we can get through? Which
door would make it easier? 3. Have a list of the medications you
take. We will want to take the medications with you to the hospital most of the
time. 4. Have a list of your allergies to medications, and your
medical history written down. I can't tell you how many times patience "forget"
to tell us they're diabetic or have a past heart condition. 5. Have a
list of phone numbers of family or friends that you want notified, that you're
in the hospital. Even though you know the number by heart, when we're stressed,
we can forget! 6. If you had all of the above in one place, how easy
it would be to scoop it all up and take it with you. 7. Let us know
you have pets, so we can ask someone to take care of them. 8. When
you see the ambulance leave with the patient, please don't let the remaining
family member drive to the hospital alone, even if it's in the middle of the
night, go with them.....you'll earn your "angel wings".
And remember......if calling EMT (911) after dark, put on all
lights in the house and yard, if possible, and call a neighbor to direct our
EMT's to the site with a flashlight. Be sure your house numbers are at the
end of your driveway, in plain site, and readable.
Walker EMTs are currently working on an Emergency Directory.
This directory will include all Walker residents. They are requesting the
following information from everyone: Name, Address, Phone Number, any special
medical needs, and directions to your home from the WFPA Fire Station.
This information will assist our EMTs/Firefighters in a quicker response time,
getting the medical/emergency attention you or your loved one needs. In
the event of a night emergency call, complete directions on file, could be
"life-saving". All information will be kept confidential.
